My Garden In Pillowell, Forest of Dean

'Hot off the press' a piece made in August 2019 for the Embroiderers' Guild 'Home' exhibition. This will be first shown at the 'Knitting and Stitching Show' Alexandra Palace, London, in October.

Having lived in the Forest of Dean for nearly 20 years the place has gradually seeped into my soul and I feel the importance of the local environment more than I could ever have anticipated.

This view from my house is very special to me and inspires me in much of my work. The garden is huge and constantly requires more attention than I can give it. The impact of each season both in the local, wonderful landscape and the garden always provides joy. This view faces west towards Wales and indicates the weather coming over as the skies are always moving and the light is ever changing.

As a result of completing this piece I am eager to start another version of a similar view to chart the different colours, tones and light that early Autumn brings.

Technically, this embroidery has been worked on layers of translucent fabrics with machine stitching to create depth, light, tone and texture. Hand stitches have been added to reference flowers. The sunflower and teasels were made and appliqued on.
