Ladybird Series: "Pond and River Birds"

"Here is a pic of the piece I recently completed. It is called 'Pond and River Birds' and was made in July/August for the Embroiderers' Guild Exhibition 'Page 17' which will be on show in London in October at the Knitting and Stitching Show and in November in Harrogate and on tour.

This is from the cover of an old Ladybird book I had from my childhood so is full of nostalgia and memories. Also, I have been developing ideas based on birds, animals and mythical creatures so the theme fitted. The piece was worked on a collage of translucent quilted fabrics to reflect the concept of water and shadows of the grass. Both Mallards were machine embroidered and applied to the Page. As I result of this piece I am now making several more Ladybird book covers!" -- Sara
